- Keep the tape centered along the spine.
- Do not measure onto the tail.
- Do not begin at the top of the head.
Back length determines how much of your dog’s body the coat will cover.
2. Chest Girth
Measure around the widest part of the chest, directly behind the front legs.
- Keep the tape level around the body.
- Leave enough room for comfortable breathing and movement.
- Pay particular attention to dogs with broad or deep chests.
Chest fit is critical. A coat can be the correct length and still be too tight around the body.
3. Neck Circumference
Measure around the base of the neck where the collar naturally sits.
- The coat should close comfortably without pressing against the throat.
- You should be able to slide two fingers comfortably beneath the neckline.
- Check that your dog can lower and turn their head freely.

Choose the larger size when your dog:
- Falls between two measurements
- Has a broad chest or heavier build
- Has a particularly thick natural coat
- Will wear a sweater beneath the coat
- Is close to the upper limit of the smaller size

- Fit securely without restricting the neck or chest
